Five million citizens of British origin will be part, during the next weeks, of the Christmas "great escape", setting as their main destinations the Canary Islands and southern Spain, areas that are registering a strong demand for these dates.
According to the British travel agents' association ABTA, the preferences of these travelers for this year are divided between those looking for destinations with sun and beach, where the Canary Islands are one of the two leading destinations, and those who prefer to enjoy a traditional snowy Christmas, where the ski resorts of France or Switzerland stand out.
In this sense, British airports are reporting quite high traveler transit figures for this period between December and January, with Stansted registering 640,000 passengers; Manchester, 500,000; Luton, 470,000; Edinburgh, 296,000; and Bristol, 175,000; to which are added about three million from Heathrow and several hundred thousand from Gatwick.
