Lanzarote recorded the highest average spending per tourist of the entire year during the last quarter of 2021, reaching 143.1 euros per day. Of this amount, 53.81% was allocated to accommodation, according to the Lanzarote Data Center. The total average spending per tourist in 2021 was 140.5 euros, a higher figure than in 2019, before the arrival of Covid-19, when spending was 135.3 euros.

Tourist spending in 2021 slightly exceeded that of 2020, as last year the average annual spending was 140.5 euros and in 2020 it was 138.6 euros.

Visitors who toured the island in the last three months of last year spent almost twice as much money on island recreation, culture and sports activities as on shopping.

The period with the most similar spending for these activities was in the first months of the year, when an average of 5.5 euros was spent on recreation, culture and sports activities and 5.3 euros on shopping. The latter group opened 2021 with the same figure as it closed 2020.

Although in terms of total average spending, the fourth quarter of 2021 obtains the highest figure, as is the case in accommodation and food, the same does not happen in the other groups.

The third quarter of the year is when the most capital has been invested in transportation, 68.7 euros on average between local and international or national transport, the one used before reaching the destination. During the summer season, it has also been the months in which the average spending per tourist has been higher in the group of recreation, culture and sports activities, and shopping (6.0 euros and 7.2 euros, respectively).

Regarding accommodation, there has been a decrease between 2021 (62.1 euros) and 2020 (63.0 euros), but in turn, an increase compared to 2019 (59.5 euros).

In international or national transport, depending on the origin of the tourist, the spending figure collected in 2021 was lower than that of 2020, but it did not recover the pre-pandemic figure, as the highest spending was made in 2019 with an average of 38.8 euros. The opposite occurs in local transport, since in 2021 the highest average spending is obtained, with 11.8 euros, and the lowest was in 2019, with 8.2 euros.

Recreation, culture and sports activities; food; shopping; and others are the other groups that in 2021 had an average spending per tourist higher than the pre-pandemic figure.
