The Canarian Vacation Rental Association (ASCAV) has denounced this Tuesday the imposition of sanctions on owners of apartments and bungalows for making use of them on weekends or on vacation, even if they do not live in them or rent them touristically.
"Everything is due to the strategy of the Ministry of Tourism to force them to cede their properties to the operating companies so that they can continue to enrich themselves with what is not even theirs," summarizes ASCAV.
A situation that adds to "the false and unreal expectation" created by the Government of the Canary Islands with Decree Law 2/2025, which "was supposed to suspend sanctions against owners for not adhering to tourist use".
It happens that "they are not being suspended because it is required that the entire complex change the use to residential, an absolutely impossible extreme given that unanimity of all owners is needed".
These new sanctions, in some cases of 2,500 euros, represent "one more twist against the small Canarian owners who, after a lifetime of effort and work, combining savings, were able to buy an apartment in the south of our islands and all they are looking for is a place to rest".
A "harassment and demolition" of the owners of apartments and bungalows who "are not allowed to reside, or rent vacationally or for a long season, or use personally on weekends or on vacation", concludes ASCAV.
