Arrecife received in January 111.736 cruise passengers, a 21,3% more than during the same period last year, according to data from the Autoridad Portuaria de Las Palmas, provided by the city council.
The mayor Yonathan de León, member of the Authority's Board of Directors, has stressed that this increase is due to the fact that now Arrecife is “home port for cruise shipping companies”.
The volume of cruise passengers in Arrecife represents the 30.1% of the total in the set of state ports in the province of Las Palmas.
In total, the three cruise ports of the province (Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) closed the month of January with 370,622 cruise passengers, 16.2% more than a year ago.
The city council also highlights “economic advantages for the island due to the increase in provisions to shipping companies”: 6,186 tons, that is, 87.6% more than a year ago.
The capital's city council also highlighted that Arrecife has the only port facility on the island with the presence of an Immigration unit of the National Police for the control of non-EU passports.
