The port of Arrecife has received a total of 407,024 cruise passengers between January and July of this year , which represents an accumulated increase since January of 16%. This official data, released by the Port Authority of Las Palmas (APL), to which the Arrecife port belongs, reveals that the port of Lanzarote's capital is the one that is growing the most in arrivals of cruise tourists among all state ports in the Canary Islands.
The ports of Arrecife (Naos, cruceros, and Los Mármoles) contribute more than 30% of the income of the Port of Las Palmas entity from the activity of tourist cruises and are the ones that are growing the most overall by disembarked tourists and by income associated with the presence of cruise companies in Canary Islands waters.
On the other hand, Arrecife has already kicked off the 2026-2027 cruise pre-season, which foresees the call of 100 tourist cruises until December.
For the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, these figures reflect that "the actions undertaken during this term are bearing fruit, particularly, having managed to make Lanzarote a base for the shipping companies that plan their cruises through Canary Islands waters."
A luxury cruise ship docks in Arrecife this Monday
Within the current 2026/27 pre-season, the city of Arrecife will receive on Monday, August 31, the call of the Oceania Allura, a medium-sized luxury cruise ship from the Oceania Cruises company, inaugurated in 2025 as the second in the Allura class after the Oceania Vista. It has 11 decks (floors) with 613 cabins, all with sophisticated options and private balconies.
The forecasts of the Port Authority of Las Palmas reflect that Arrecife will manage to exceed 720,000 cruise passengers by the end of 2026, marking a record among Canary Islands ports.
According to the city council, "cruise tourism underpins the local economy of Arrecife, where many shops and hospitality businesses increase their income coinciding with the cruise season," which, unlike the Mediterranean region where tourism has its high season between the spring and summer months, in the Canary Islands it is achieved in the autumn and winter months (September – April).
