The Cabildo of Lanzarote is moving forward in the planning of modernization plans for Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise. The Island Institution has sent to auditing the two agreements with the Government of the Canary Islands that will allow the promotion of the drafting of modernization plans, improvement and increase of competitiveness of these tourist centers, a key step to update the urban planning and provide them with legal certainty.

Once the intervening body issues the mandatory report, the agreements will be brought to the next Plenary Session of the Island Institution for final approval. Subsequently, the Cabildo will proceed to tender the technical drafting of both plans, which will be developed in coordination with the Government of the Canary Islands.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, emphasized that this step demonstrates the island Corporation's firm commitment to move forward decisively, and indicated that "today we are activating the process to modernize Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise, two fundamental engines of our economy. As soon as the agreements are audited, we will take them to the Plenary Session and, immediately, to tender. These plans will provide legal certainty, sustainability, renovation, and more employment opportunities for our people."

Betancort also emphasized "the importance of institutional collaboration and stated that we have the support of the Government of the Canary Islands and the involvement of the municipalities. Only in this way can we guarantee that the island's tourism development is carried out with order, a vision for the future, and international quality standards."

The Councilor for Territorial Policy of the Cabildo, Jesús Machín, pointed out that this is a key milestone in the administrative process, "once this procedure is completed, the Plenary will give the green light to tender the drafting of the documents. We are meeting the deadlines and working rigorously to offer both nuclei an updated instrument that responds to their current needs."

Machín insisted that these plans are essential for Lanzarote's tourism competitiveness and explained that "we have been dealing with obsolete planning for decades. Modernizing our destinations will improve their image, attract investment, generate employment, and guarantee orderly and sustainable growth. It is a historic opportunity for Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca.”

For her part, the Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Tovar, added that "the Cabildo is making a responsible economic effort to promote projects that improve our tourist destinations and generate a real return for society with more economic activity, more employment and better planning of the territory."

In the case of Playa Blanca, the drafting of the new Modernization Plan is especially necessary due to the partial annulment of the current planning by a court ruling, which makes it essential to provide the municipality with a new, updated regulatory framework that allows for the organization of growth and guarantees legal certainty. For its part, the Costa Teguise Modernization Plan will allow for the renovation of hotel and non-hotel infrastructure, commercial areas, public spaces, and strategic facilities for its economic revitalization.
