The construction of free housing soars 17.5% in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura

In the first quarter of 2026, the construction of free housing in the province of Las Palmas grew almost five points more than at the national level, while no protected housing was started

During the first three months of the year, 1,214 homes of free promotion were started in the Canary archipelago, which represents 15.4% more than in the same period of 2025. This information is detailed in the Free and Protected Housing Statistics, which the Canary Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) updates monthly.

At the national level, the number of free access homes started grew by 12.7% compared to the first quarter of 2025, that is, almost 3 points less than in the Canary Islands.

By provinces, in Las Palmas, the start of 676 free promotion homes was registered, 17.5% more than in the same period of the previous year. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the growth was less pronounced, 12.4% more than in the first quarter of 2025, and the construction of 538 free homes began.

In this first quarter of the year, no protected housing has been started in the Canary Islands.
