The Technical Office of the Arrecife City Council is working together with the Canarian public entity Visocan on the construction of the other 200 social houses that are pending construction in the capital's neighborhood of Maneje to reach the 400 planned in the area and has announced that the bidding for the drafting of the project will not take place until, at least, within one or two months.
The construction of these 200 houses was not free of controversy, as the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, proposed that if Visocan was not going to build the houses, the council would revert the land and put it out to tender so that a private developer could build and operate it for 75 years.
Finally, the council announced two weeks later that Visocan would resume construction. At the end of July, De León announced that the bidding for the drafting of the project would be launched during the month of August, but for now it will be extended until October or November.
Currently, the council has informed in a statement, the construction of these 200 new homes could begin throughout 2026. This was announced by the Councilor for Urban Planning of Arrecife, Maciot Cabrera, who considers that this expansion of the public park is "more than necessary".
“This new project is in addition to the promotion already underway in the same neighborhood, where the third batch of the action known as Los Geranios is being executed, with 201 social houses under construction, and another promotion of 46 social houses in Triana Street. In other words, at the end of this term, we will have 447 new social houses in Arrecife,” said Cabrera.
“The forecast is that said project can be delivered in the coming months, which will later allow the work to be tendered with the greatest possible agility. If these deadlines are met, the construction of the new homes could begin throughout the year 2026,” the councilman stressed.
The head of Urban Planning stressed that “the collaboration between the Arrecife City Council and the Government of the Canary Islands is essential to respond to the demand for housing in the capital”, and stressed that “this project in Maneje will be a decisive step to serve many families from Arrecife who are waiting for a housing solution.”
“It is a key project for Arrecife and a priority on our public housing agenda,” he concluded.
