This Saturday, April 5, at 12:00 noon, in front of the Casa Amarilla (Old Cabildo) of Arrecife, a day of protest was held for the right to decent housing. The call, of spontaneous nature and replicated in numerous points of the archipelago and the State, "has been a success by bringing together various organizations and social groups", according to Izquierda Unida Lanzarote.
In the concentration, several representatives of different groups took the floor, such as the spokesman of Izquierda Unida, Jorge Peñas, or CCOO and Lanzarote for Palestine, stressing the need to stop speculation and guarantee the right to housing. "Thanks to the people attending; this is only the beginning of the road," said Peñas. The Association of Solidarity with the Sahara was also present, reaffirming the solidarity and collective dimension of the mobilization.
The concentration, to which 40 different cities in Spain have joined and which is positioned as the first state demonstration in defense of housing, was attended by people with clear messages: "My home is not a business", "speculators out of our neighborhoods", "it is my right to grow up under a roof", "fair rents not slave wages" or "prices go up, our rights go down".
