Home foreclosures increased by 7.7% in the Canary Islands in 2024

There were a total of 459 home foreclosures on individuals in the archipelago last year

The number of homes of individuals with mortgage foreclosure decreased in 2024 compared to the previous year by 5.77% in the country as a whole - 4.3% for primary residences -, but this trend, which is repeated for the third consecutive year, only affected four communities, while in the Canary Islands they increased by 7.75%.

Madrid, with a decrease of 19.14%; Andalusia, with 17.81% less; Castilla-La Mancha, with a decrease of 13.91%; and the Valencian Community, where they decreased by 13.62%, were the protagonists of the decrease in foreclosures, while another 11 communities registered increases and in two the figures from 2023 were repeated.

Among the territories where the number of homes of individuals with mortgage foreclosure increased, the Balearic Islands (24.00%), Castilla y León (23.04%), Aragon (21.97%) and the Basque Country (21.43%) stand out.

They also increased in Galicia (19.01%), Murcia (16.33%), the Canary Islands (7.75%), Cantabria (6.98%), Extremadura (5.48%), Asturias (4.40%) and Catalonia (4.18%), while Navarra and La Rioja repeated the same foreclosures as in 2023.

The communities where more home foreclosures of individuals occurred in 2024 were Catalonia, with 2,417, 22.56% of the total (10,713); Andalusia, with 2,353, 21.96%; and the Valencian Community, with 1,934, 18.05%.
