The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said this Tuesday that the regional executive will not propose a moratorium on vacation rentals due to the legal and compensatory consequences that such a decision could have, but, he reiterated, councils and city councils can do so.

In the plenary session of the regional Parliament and in response to the deputy of the Nueva Canarias-Canarian Bloc group, Luis Campos, the President of the Canary Islands indicated that the housing problem is addressed from various perspectives, one of which is that of vacation rentals.

Therefore, Fernando Clavijo stressed, the Canarian government has acted with "courage" and has put a vacation rental law on the table, on which, he insisted, he is not in favor of applying a moratorium from the regional executive.

The deputy of Nueva Canarias-Canarian Bloc (NC-BC) Luis Campos recalled that it has now been a year since the housing "decree", and insisted that the situation has worsened with the current regional executive.

Luis Campos indicated that the number of vacation homes has increased and the most "serious" thing is that not a single public home emanates from that decree, since those that have been made come from the actions of the previous Canarian government.

The deputy of Nueva Canarias-Canarian Bloc has asked for a moratorium for vacation rentals for the "fifth time".
