The 2026 harvest of the Protected Designation of Origin (DOP) Vinos de Lanzarote has started this week earlier than expected, precipitated by the arrival of high temperatures. This has been confirmed by its Regulatory Council, which indicates that from now on the collection will develop in a more staggered manner until the more generalized start between mid and late July.

Bodega David Fernández and Bodega Jable de Tao were the first to begin the collection. They have been joined by Bodega El Grifo, which has already carried out the first weighings of grapes destined for its Brut sparkling wine and continues with the rest of its harvest. For the moment, the variety being collected is Malvasía Volcánica, and around 1,000 kilos have been registered in these first days of harvest.

The rest of the wineries adhering to the DOP will gradually join in the coming weeks, as their technicians verify in the field that each plot reaches the optimal point of maturation.

Regarding the total volume of the campaign, Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Regulatory Council of the DOP Vinos de Lanzarote, indicates that "it is still too early to give a closed figure", although he estimates that production "could be around 2.5 million kilos".

Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Regulatory Council of the DOP Vinos de Lanzarote, explained the advance: "The high temperatures this week have accelerated ripening in some plots, and several wineries have decided to start now to harvest the grapes at their best moment."

This start of the harvest is being carried out with close coordination between winegrowers and winemakers, in a process that will last for the coming weeks and that reaffirms the commitment of Lanzarote's wineries to the quality of their wines and the preservation of their winemaking tradition.
