The master brewer of Aloe Plus Lanzarote, Ernesto Pérez, was in Tenerife with the Saborea Lanzarote delegation to present their classic products and their new items: a beer and a gin with aloe. This is how he responded to Carlos Chavaux's questions for Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero about his experience at the Fair and the conejera company's new beverages.

  • What products has Aloe Plus Lanzarote presented at Gastrocanarias?

We have brought pure aloe vera juice, pineapple and red fruit flavored juices, beer, and the latest thing we have launched, gin with aloe vera.

  • What is Aloe Plus Lanzarote beer like?

It is a pale ale with natural fermentation, bottle conditioning, and secondary fermentation for carbonation. It is a medium style, not for hardcore beer drinkers, it appeals to non-beer drinkers.

  • How did the idea come about?

Basically, it arose to give more outlet to our star product, organic cultivation aloe vera, which gives the beer gastronomic, not therapeutic, nuances, flavors, and textures. It is integrated into the recipe, it is not an addition, and you can tell when you drink it.

  • What does aloe taste like?

Aloe is basically bitter and unctuous. Normally people dilute it in juices or water. For therapeutic use, very small doses are used, with 10 milliliters daily your needs would be met.

  • What effect does it have on the beer you are producing?

In the case of beer, it is simply a contribution to textures and nuances. The herbal note that aloe has, its bitterness, is noticeable at the end of the beer.

We have compensated for it with caramel malts and toasted malts, which are the first thing you taste, and so the result is tremendously balanced. The aloe adds creaminess, it doesn't lose body, on the contrary, and the result is very pleasant.

  • What quantity are you producing and where?

We were at about a thousand liters a month, but we will have to increase production rapidly due to demand. We produce in the north of Lanzarote.

  • And the aloe gin, what is it like?

It is a distillate made in Lanzarote with our juice also integrated into the gin production process. It is tremendously aromatic and very flavorful. We recommend drinking it with tonic because gin and tonic with this gin is spectacular.

  • What juices are you marketing?

Apart from the pure aloe juice, as always, we have the pineapple-flavored aloe juice and the red fruits-flavored aloe juice, which also attracts a lot of attention, is very refreshing, and is very good for recovering electrolytes and mineral salts.
