A total of 153 people joined the unemployment lists in Lanzarote during the month of July, which contrasts with what happened in La Palma (-0.2%), El Hierro (-0.8%) and especially in Fuerteventura, where it fell by 2.3%, equivalent to 133 new employees.
However, in the last twelve months as a whole, the balance remains positive. Unemployment has decreased by 6.9% on the island since July last year, specifically from 7,723 unemployed to 7,189 last month.
By municipalities, unemployment rose in all of them except Yaiza, where it fell by 0.7%. In fact, Yaiza, with an unemployment rate of 6.3%, is the second municipality in the Canary Islands with the lowest unemployment after Pájara (6.1%).
The Cabildo of Lanzarote has also reported the unemployment rate in Tías (7.7%), and San Bartolomé (8.1%). This data implies that Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are the islands with the best employment data in the Canary Islands.
The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, confirms that Lanzarote remains among the islands with the lowest unemployment rate, "placing us below 10%, which reflects the strength of our economic fabric."
"However, our challenge remains to ensure that this reduction translates into stable, quality employment, and that it reaches all sectors and ages. The increase in hiring, especially among those under 25, encourages us to continue promoting active policies that facilitate labor insertion and support companies to bet on local talent," he points out.
In the last year, unemployment among those under 25 has increased by 3.6%, while among those between 25 and 44 years old it has decreased by 9.7% and among those over 45 years old, by 6%.
The group of unemployed with primary education has been reduced by 9.1%, while unemployment among those with secondary education was reduced by 3.7%. As for those with university studies, the fall is 5.7%, and among those who have completed professional training, 0.6%.
