Workplace accidents in Lanzarote maintain an upward trend so far this year, although with a positive nuance regarding the severity of the incidents. According to the latest official data from the Lanzarote Island Council Data Center —based on Canary Islands Government records—, between January and July 2026, a total of 1,430 work accidents with sick leave were registered, representing an increase of 6.4% compared to the same period last year (1,344 incidents).
Despite the general increase in incidents, statistics show a significant decrease in the most serious episodes.
Minor accidents went from 1,338 in 2025 to 1,427 in the cumulative total for 2026, which is equivalent to an increase of 6.65%. At the same time, serious incidents fell from the five cases recorded in the first seven months of 2025 to three in the same period of 2026.
Regarding fatalities and very serious cases, during the months elapsed in 2026, no very serious or fatal work accidents have been registered. This contrasts favorably with the previous year, in which one fatality was recorded in the workplace.
In the monthly breakdown for 2026, March stands out as the month with the highest number of total incidents (230), followed closely by May (224) and January (210). For their part, the only three serious accidents of the year took place in the months of January, March, and July.
The overall balance reflects a higher volume of daily incidents in the island's companies, but shows an improvement in the prevention of more serious accidents.
