The labor market in Lanzarote closed the month of October 2026 with a negative trend change by adding new job seekers. According to the latest data published by the Canary Observatory of Employment (OBECAN), the island registered a total of 7,013 unemployed people, representing a monthly increase of 3.3% (+222 people compared to 6,791 in September) and a 1.2% year-on-year rise compared to October of the previous year (6,930 unemployed).

The most alarming figure in the monthly statistics is found in the segment of younger workers. The group of people under 25 years old registered a drastic increase of 16.6% in just one month, standing at 457 unemployed.

For its part, the intermediate age group (25 to 44 years old) experienced a 3.4% monthly increase, reaching 2,442 unemployed (4.9% more than a year ago). The majority group of job seekers continues to be concentrated among those over 45 years old, who, with 4,114 people, represent 58.66% of the island's total, although their monthly growth rate was more moderate (+1.9%) and even reflects a slight annual improvement (-1.1%).

Unemployment continues to predominantly affect women, who represent 56.17% of the island's unemployment with 3,939 registered people, compared to 43.83% for men (3,074 unemployed).

However, in the last month, male employment deteriorated more intensely: unemployment among men increased by 4% monthly and 2.4% year-on-year, while among women the increase was 2.7% compared to September and barely 0.3% in the twelve-month comparison.

By level of academic education, more than 89% of unemployed people in Lanzarote lack higher education: 4,194 have primary education (60.3% of the island's total, after rising 4.3% in the month) and 2,028 have secondary education (29.16% of the total, with a monthly increase of 2.3%).

Job seekers with university studies registered the most favorable monthly performance with a decrease of -6.1% (standing at 419 people); however, they account for the greatest annual worsening of the entire table, soaring by 10.3% compared to October of the previous year.

Vocational training also experienced generalized increases, adding 314 unemployed after rising 3.6% monthly and 4.6% annually.
