Unemployment falls in Lanzarote in August and accumulates four months of decreases

For a year now, unemployment has fallen on the island by 7.7%, equivalent to more than 600 people

During the month of August, 31 people left the unemployment lists in Lanzarote, according to data released by the Canarian Employment Observatory (Obecan).

This is a modest decrease of 0.4% with which the total number of people in unemployment situation on the island amounts to 7,692 citizens.

The figure is 7.7% lower than that recorded twelve months ago when the total number of unemployed exceeded 8,000 people, specifically 8,334.

In the Canary Islands as a whole, the number of unemployed fell by 443 people, which represents a decrease of 0.27% compared to the figure recorded the previous month.

In year-on-year terms, unemployment fell by 9,884 people (-5.72%). With all this, the archipelago accumulates a total of 163,045 people without work, the lowest figure since March 2008.

In the annual comparison, unemployment decreased in all sectors. In percentage terms, Agriculture led the decline by 755 people (-21.03%), followed by Industry with 542 fewer unemployed (-8.32%), while in Construction it was reduced by 1,064 people (-6.77%); in Commerce by 1,576 people (-5.65%) and in Hospitality by 1,407 people (-5.57%).

In the eighth month of the year, unemployment decreased in all the islands if we compare it with the data recorded in July. If in Lanzarote there were 31 fewer people, there were 154 fewer unemployed in Gran Canaria; 113 in Fuerteventura, while Tenerife counted 65 fewer.

La Palma experienced a decrease of 41 people; La Gomera represented a decrease of 29 people and in El Hierro it was reduced by 10 people.
