Unemployment falls in Lanzarote by 0.8% in February, the best figure in the Canary Islands

However, with respect to a year ago, unemployment has fallen more in Gran Canaria, in Tenerife and in the whole of the archipelago than in the 'conejera' island.

The unemployment fell in February by 0.8% in Lanzarote with respect to the previous month, which is equivalent to 55 fewer people on the island's unemployment lists, according to data from the Canarian Employment Observatory (Obecan). 

The average of the archipelago was an increase in unemployment of 0.1%, while by islands, in addition to Lanzarote, unemployment only minimally decreased in February in Gran Canaria (-0.1%), while in Tenerife remained at the same figures it registered in January. 

The largest percentage increases in unemployment were recorded in El Hierro (7%), La Gomera (4.2%) and Fuerteventura (2.7%). In La Palma unemployment grew in February by 0.5%. 

However, compared to a year ago, unemployment has fallen more in Tenerife (-6.9%) and in Gran Canaria (-6.8%) than in Lanzarote (-6%). In Fuerteventura, unemployment is 4.4% lower than twelve months ago. 

In the Canary Islands as a whole, unemployment has also fallen more than in Lanzarote in the last twelve months, specifically by 6.5%.
