Unemployment falls by 3.3% in Lanzarote compared to February and 45.7% compared to March 2021

Last month ended with 10,714 unemployed people on the island, which is 363 less than the previous month.

Unemployment fell again in Lanzarote in March, with 363 fewer unemployed than in February, which represents a decrease of 3.3%. In addition, compared to February 2021, the decrease has been 45.7%, according to data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory collected by the Cabildo Data Center.

Specifically, last month ended with 10,714 people registered as job seekers on the island, compared to the 19,732 just a year ago. This represents not only a figure lower than that recorded before the start of the pandemic, but also one of the best data since 2007.

The municipality with the highest unemployment is still Arrecife, which registers 5,697 unemployed, followed by San Bartolomé (1,183) and Teguise (1,140). Tías has 1,118 unemployed people, Yaiza 822, Tinajo 406 and Haría 348. In addition, the most affected economic sectors are services, with 4,466 unemployed, followed by hospitality (2,511) and commerce (1,731).

Regarding the profile of the unemployed, of the 10,714 unemployed people currently in Lanzarote, 4,636 are men and 6,108 are women, with people between 50 and 60 years of age registering the highest unemployment (3,318).

Regarding the archipelago, the number of unemployed registered in public employment offices decreased by 3,381 people compared to February (1.65%), being the third largest decrease in Spain after the Balearic Islands (-5.74%) and Cantabria (-1.94%), bringing the total amount to 201,753 unemployed, according to data from the Ministry of Labor.
