Unemployment decreases slightly in June in Lanzarote and stands at 7,736 people

A figure that represents a reduction of 0.4% of what was recorded in May on the island and 6.6% less than in June of last year

Unemployment has registered a slight decrease this month of June with 7,736 people compared to May 2024 in Lanzarote, as reported this Tuesday by the island's Data Center. Thirty people have left the unemployment lists, a figure that represents 0.4% less than what was recorded in the previous month, in which there were 7,766 unemployed.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, unemployment figures are down 6.6%, in June 2023 there were 8,286 people registered on the unemployment lists.

The lowest unemployment figure in the Canary Islands since March 2008

The number of unemployed in the Canary Islands has been reduced in the last year by 9,559 people (a decrease of 5.49%) to 164,460 applicants. This represents the lowest figure since March 2008, in which unemployment is at figures prior to the great financial crisis of 2008, as reported by the Ministry of Tourism and Employment.

The Canary Islands has registered this June 164,460 unemployed, which represents a reduction of 1,604 people compared to the month of May (a decrease of 0.97%) and a reduction of 9,559 in the interannual variation.

In addition, the Deputy Minister of Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Isabel León, has indicated that in April 2008 the archipelago had "almost 2,000 more unemployed than now", with a total of 166,241 unemployed. She has stated that, "despite the various crises of recent years and despite the increase in population, the labor market in the islands shows a positive trend and new jobs continue to be generated."

Unemployment has also been reduced in June in all economic sectors. The largest decrease corresponds to the other services category, with 467 fewer unemployed than in May, followed by commerce, with 452 fewer unemployed; hospitality, with 267 fewer; construction, with 168 fewer, industry, with 58 fewer, and agriculture, with 44 fewer. At the interannual level, agriculture is the activity that registers the largest percentage decrease, of 19.01%.

Unemployment has also decreased in all age groups, highlighting the decrease among those under 25 years of age, with 536 fewer unemployed
