The UGT union has achieved a salary increase of 14% for workers in the home help sector in the Canary Islands, which will affect both the public and private sectors, as reported this Monday in a statement.
The general secretary of the UGT Public Services federation in the islands, Francisco Bautista, considered that this is a "historic" agreement, which will substantially improve their working conditions.
"Starting next year, these new measures will begin to be noticed in the pockets of employees who have been providing an essential service to this society. It is a unique agreement in the islands and we believe that justice is finally being done," he remarked.
The agreement includes a salary increase for new public concessions of 8% in 2023 and 3% in 2024 and 202; a new extraordinary payment from 2024 with an increase of 150 euros and in 2025 of 300 euros; reduction of the working day and increase of free and festive days such as January 6; and increase of a life insurance with a policy valued at 20,000 euros.
With these new measures, the Canary Islands deviates from the national agreement and only issues that are considered transversal to the performance of said employment will be applied.
Likewise, the federation undertakes to continue advancing in the incorporation of measures that improve the quality of working conditions such as early retirement or the recognition of occupational diseases.
