The CEL has asked the regional Executive to extend the ERTE until the summer, given the complicated situation of the archipelago, considering insufficient the extension announced by the Government of Spain on February 21, which would be extended for one more month. In this regard, the CEL demands that this mechanism be extended "at least until the summer", especially in some key sectors such as tourism.
"In the last year we have managed to stop the destruction of the business fabric of the islands, and we believe that a prompt elimination of the ERTE would only contribute to many entities that have not yet managed to recover from the pandemic suffering irreversible consequences," explains the president of the CEL Francisco Martínez. "While it is true that the socio-economic recovery is showing green shoots, we must not forget that unemployment levels or tourist occupancy in Lanzarote, added to the sixth wave of COVID-19, continue to show worse statistics than before the start of this crisis, so we must not give up the measures that have helped us get here," he says.
In the same vein, Francisco Martínez has expressed his concern in relation to the Canary Islands Investment Reserve (RIC), asking the regional Executive for an effort to achieve the extension of the RIC for one more year, despite the fact that this has been a provisional measure and due to the situation of the business sector in the Canary Islands.
"This would save a multitude of resources, as well as numerous jobs, and would be nothing more than the recognition of the fueros of the Canary Islands, which needs more than ever the support of the State to get ahead of this crisis," adds Francisco Martínez.
