The Lanzarote Business Confederation (CEL) celebrates that the island has the lowest rate of job seekers (12%) in the Canary Islands, according to data from the Registered Active Population Statistics (EPA-Reg) published by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).

Fuerteventura is very close with 12.2%, while on the opposite side are Gran Canaria, with a rate of 19.4%, and Tenerife, where registered job seekers reach 18.2%.

The president of the CEL, Francisco Martínez, pointed out that "this data is a clear indicator of the consolidation of the good figures in terms of employment in Lanzarote and, together with the continuous decrease in unemployment on the island, marks the path we must follow to continue strengthening the business fabric".

Among the five Canary Island municipalities with the lowest rate of job seekers are Teguise, Tías and San Bartolomé and Yaiza. The southern municipality achieves the lowest indicator in the entire archipelago, with 8.5%.

Likewise, during the past week the Canary Islands Employment Observatory made public the unemployment data in the islands in May. These data confirmed that the positive trend of recent months in employment in Lanzarote continues, with a decrease of 2.2% compared to the previous month, registering 8,473 unemployed in May.

With respect to the interannual rate, unemployment in Lanzarote has decreased by 14% compared to May 2022, when the number of unemployed people stood at 9,855.
