Last year closed with a total of 69,621 social security affiliates in Lanzarote, which is 5,529 more people than the previous year, according to the Lanzarote Data Center.
The services sector, which employs the majority of the island's population, experienced a growth in the number of social security affiliates close to 10% in 2022, which meant a total of 5,321 new registrations.
The majority were in hospitality and commerce, which added 2,737 and 1,184 new contributors respectively during the past year. In total, both subsectors account for almost half of all social security registrations on the island. A total of 33,613 people.
For its part, the construction sector added 115 new affiliations to social security, so the total number of contributors in the sector reached 4,487 people on the island at the close of 2022.
The industry added a total of 4,487 affiliations. There were 69 more than the previous year.
In agriculture, affiliations also grew. There were 24 more than in 2021 and totaled 656 contributors.
