More than 50,000 Canary Islanders left the unemployment lists in 2024

The unemployment rate fell below the 12% barrier in the archipelago according to data from the latest Active Population Survey (EPA)

The Canary Islands closed 2024 with 138,400 unemployed people, that is, 50,300 fewer than those counted at the end of 2023, which translates into an unemployment rate of 11.91%, according to data from the EPA related to the fourth quarter of last year, released this Tuesday by the INE.

This means that in year-on-year terms this indicator has registered a decrease of 26.67%, while if the last quarter of 2024 is compared with the previous one, unemployment in the islands fell by 17.53%, in 29,400 people.

The archipelago had 1,023,700 employed at the end of last year, 37,300 more than in 2023, that is, 3.78% more. Compared to the previous quarter, the number of employed people grew by 26,400, 2.64%.

Therefore, the activity rate stood at 59.04%. The number of active people was 1,162,100, 1.11% less (-13,000 people) than those counted at the end of 2023.
