The Ministry of Labor has proposed this Wednesday to unions and employers a 3.1% increase in the minimum wage in 2026.
The Committee of Experts had recommended to the Government either an increase of 3.1%, if it were exempt from income tax, and 4.7%, if it were taxed. Thus, the Executive has opted for the first of these two alternatives.
The increase amounts to 37 euros more per month, bringing the gross monthly salary to 1,221 euros in 14 payments.
The Secretary of State for Employment, Joaquín Pérez Rey, explained that the social partners have committed to studying the proposal, following a dialogue he described as "sincere and constructive".
"We have to conduct our internal consultations. We have not shown our preference or rejection yet," the deputy general secretary of Union Policy of UGT, Fernando Luján, informed the media afterwards.
The representative of Comisiones Obreras in the negotiation, Javier Pacheco, has described the meeting as "positive", although he has asked the Government to take their conditions into account to "guarantee those full increases".
For its part, the **CEOE** had proposed an increase of 1.5% to 16,824 euros gross per year, meaning 1,202 euros gross in 14 monthly payments, and that it be taxed
