Lanzarote exceeds 73,000 Social Security affiliations, 5.4% more than a year ago

The hotel industry represents half of the new contributors and administrative activities once again surpassed the healthcare sector in total number of affiliates

Lanzarote added 1,066 affiliations to Social Security last February, reaching a total of 73,334 contributors to the Public Institute, according to data from the Lanzarote Data Center based on figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).

Compared to twelve months ago, there are 3,802 more contributors, which is equivalent to an annual increase of 5.4%.

The island's largest economic sector, the hotel industry, added 567 affiliates last month, reaching a total of 23,179 contributors.

Commerce, the second sector with the most employees in Lanzarote, added 153 affiliates to Social Security, reaching a total of 12,569 contributors.

The administrative activities and auxiliary services sector has become the third largest labor sector in February, surpassing the healthcare sector. There are 5,735 contributors to the Public Institute, 152 more than the previous month.

In Healthcare and Social Services, there are 5,497 contributors, which is 93 fewer affiliates than in January.

The fifth and sixth sectors that contribute the most contributors to Social Security on the island are construction (4,452) and transportation (4,500), which gained 30 and 118 affiliates respectively in February.

The remaining economic sectors contributed another 139 new contributors to the Public Institute in February. Among them, the increase of 59 affiliates among workers in culture and entertainment stands out, reaching a total of 1,825 contributors.
