At the end of October, the number of Social Security affiliations in Lanzarote was 60,468 people. Exactly 500 more than in the previous month and 7.5% more than in October of last year, according to data from the Canarian Employment Observatory (OBECAN).
Of the total number of workers contributing to Social Security in Lanzarote, 49,160 are employees and 11,308 are self-employed.
The number of employees in Lanzarote has experienced a year-on-year growth of 8.34%, while the number of self-employed contributors has grown by 4.33% compared to October of last year.
In all of the Canary Islands, there were 872,068 people affiliated to Social Security in October, which represents a 5.5% growth year-on-year, the highest among all the autonomous communities. A "historic record" in the words of the Canarian Deputy Minister of the area, Gustavo Santana.
Apart from the increase in hospitality due to the high season in tourism (1.6%), the Deputy Minister of Employment also highlighted the monthly increase in affiliation in commerce (1.4%), "which was the sector that had the most difficulty in getting back on its feet and is now starting to pick up steam, possibly due to the months with a special impact on consumption."
