Unemployment rose in July in Lanzarote by 2.9%, which is equivalent to 196 more people in a situation of unemployment on the island compared to the previous month, reaching a total of 7,077 unemployed people, according to data provided by the Canary Employment Observatory (Obecan).
Unemployment has risen in all the Canary Islands with the exception of La Gomera, where it fell by 3.7%.
After Lanzarote, the island where unemployment rose the most in July was Gran Canaria (+1.8%), followed by El Hierro (+1.5%) and La Palma (+0.8%). In Tenerife and Fuerteventura, unemployment rose by 0.7% and 0.6% respectively.
In the Canary Islands as a whole, unemployment increased in July by 1,759 people, 1.2% more than the previous month.
As reported this Tuesday by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, at a national level, the access of regularized foreign workers to employment services is one of the factors that has contributed to the increase in registered unemployment in July, when it stood at 2,311,499 people, 19,517 more than in June, but still the lowest figure for a July since 2007.
As a result of the regularization, there has also been significant growth in affiliates to Social Security, and in fact, the Canary Islands is the Spanish region with the highest percentage of workers who requested their regularization and are already contributing.
