The Servicio Canario de Empleo (SCE) has opened the call for subsidies to promote self-employment in 2026. This initiative aims to support people who want to start or consolidate their activity as self-employed workers in the archipelago, promoting self-employment as a path for professional development and job creation.
For the vice president of Canarias and minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed, Manuel Domínguez, “the Government of Canarias is clear that self-employment is today one of the great levers to generate job opportunities in all the islands and that is why we allocate 12.5 million euros to support those who decide to take the step of undertaking”.
“With this call we want no good business idea to stay in a drawer due to lack of initial support: we help cover the initial expenses, finance the investment and professionalize the projects, so that these new self-employed individuals are born with more guarantees of success”, Domínguez emphasized.
For her part, the Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jessica de León, assured that “these aids are aimed at those who wish to start or consolidate their activity as self-employed, not only facilitating the launch of new businesses, but also accompanying entrepreneurs in the development of their initiatives, fostering sustainable, innovative projects aligned with the green, blue, and circular economy.”
The program includes three specific lines to address the needs of entrepreneurial individuals. The grant for establishment as a self-employed worker is the main aid to start the activity and can reach up to 6,500 euros, adjusting according to personal situation and difficulty of access to the labor market.
This amount is increased by 500 additional euros if they are long-term unemployed, if the activity is linked to the circular, green or blue economy, or if the business is located in municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. In the case of women victims of gender violence, the total amount increases by 10%, without the general maximum limit being applied.
The financial grant is intended to economically support the project by reducing the interest on loans requested to start up or develop the activity. The aid covers up to four points of the interest rate applied by the financial institution, or the total interest if it is lower, with a maximum equivalent to the grant per establishment.
Finally, the grant for technical assistance supports the improvement and professionalization of the business, partially financing the contracting of external services such as professional advice, feasibility studies, organization, marketing or business diagnosis. In this case, the aid covers up to 75% of the service cost, with a maximum limit of 150 euros.
The deadline for submitting applications will be extended until next June 30. The processing will be carried out exclusively electronically through the electronic headquarters of the Gobierno de Canarias.
