Lanzarote shot up its water consumption during 2022. The island reached record figures in the consumption of this essential commodity and placed 2022 as the period of greatest consumption of the last decade.

In total, 12,277,177 cubic meters of water were spent in the last year. The Data Center of Lanzarote, in the summary of the year 2022, has released these figures.

The lowest peak of consumption occurred in 2013 and even then it exceeded 10 million cubic meters used.

In the midst of the debate over the drought on the island, water consumption increased by 17% compared to the previous year. In the period between 2016 and 2019, the island suffered an increase in water consumption. This trend was reduced by 9% throughout 2020 and 2021. However, more water is now consumed than before.
