Currently, there are a total of 3,872 hectares of Lanzarote dedicated to agricultural crops, and 75.6% of that is dedicated to vines, almost 3,000 hectares, according to data provided by the Data Center of Lanzarote based on figures from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics.

That's almost 1,000 hectares more than ten years ago, when the total cultivated area on the island was 3,434 hectares, of which only 59% was covered with vineyards.

In contrast, there has been a sharp decline in land dedicated to tubers and vegetables. While in 2014, 212 hectares were dedicated to tubers and 663 to vegetables, currently, the figures are only 56 for the former and 272 for the latter.

The area dedicated to producing legumes has also fallen by a third. Today it is 44 hectares, while ten years ago it amounted to 66.

In addition, the number of plots dedicated to industrial crops has been reduced. Ten years ago, they covered 164 hectares, now they cover 105.

One of the crops that has grown the most in Lanzarote, after the vine, is that of forage and pasture, which has gone from occupying 98 hectares ten years ago to 248 at present.

The area dedicated to olive trees has also increased sharply, from just 15 hectares to 44 at present.

The area dedicated to cereals increased slightly, going from 121 to 134 hectares in the last ten years.

Nearly 40 hectares of the island are dedicated to fruit trees, including citrus fruits, a figure very similar to a decade ago.
