The Ministry of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI), opens a new call to support projects that propose innovative solutions to the needs and social challenges of the archipelago. The initiative will have 800,000 euros for 2027 and 2028, distributed in two procedures of 400,000 euros each.
The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, stressed that "we want to facilitate that ideas capable of generating a positive impact on Canarian society have resources to develop, grow and become solutions that contribute to improving people's quality of life".
The grants will cover 100% of the eligible expenses of each project, with contributions between 50,000 and 100,000 euros. Companies, self-employed professionals and social economy entities that develop social innovation projects and meet the requirements established in the bases may access them.
The call seeks proposals capable of providing new answers to social challenges from knowledge, creativity and collaboration. The degree of innovation of the solutions, their growth potential, their social and environmental impact, the transfer of knowledge with Canarian universities and research centers, and the development of initiatives in the non-capital islands will be taken into account in the selection.
Machín pointed out that "social innovation allows connecting knowledge, entrepreneurial capacity and commitment to the territory to find new ways to respond to problems that directly affect citizens. We seek for that innovative capacity to translate into projects with social impact, generation of opportunities and employment, also paying attention to sustainability and the reality of the non-capital islands," she added.
Innovation that generates opportunities
The creation of employment will have a significant weight in the evaluation of the projects. The hiring of people with disabilities, people in situations of social exclusion, and young unemployed people under 30 years of age will be especially recognized. The call also incorporates additional points for each woman hired within this section, up to a maximum of ten points.
"We want public resources not only to help launch good ideas, but to multiply their effect on society, creating employment and new opportunities for those who find it most difficult to access the labor market," stated Machín.
The selected projects may be developed for a maximum of 18 months. In addition, the grants will be paid in advance and the beneficiary entities will be exempt from providing guarantees to receive this advance payment, which will facilitate the launch of the initiatives.
Applications from October 15
The deadline to apply for the grants corresponding to 2027 will begin on October 15, 2026, at 09:00 AM, and will end on November 6, at 02:00 PM. For the 2028 procedure, applications may be submitted from October 15, 2027, at 09:00 AM, until November 8, at 02:00 PM. The processing will be electronic through the electronic headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Each entity may submit up to three proposals in each procedure, although only one may be subsidized. If the credit allocated for 2027 is not exhausted, the remaining amount may be transferred to the 2028 procedure. The call also contemplates the possibility of increasing its economic endowment if budgetary availability exists, without the need to open a new call.
The new edition continues the support of the Government of the Canary Islands for initiatives that use innovation to face social challenges. In the second procedure of 2026, ACIISI supported nine projects with 892,487.95 euros, linked to areas such as digital inclusion for the elderly, youth participation, environmental sustainability, and the integration of vulnerable groups.
"The projects we are already supporting demonstrate that in the Canary Islands there is the capacity to propose different solutions to very diverse challenges. We want to continue growing that ecosystem and ensure that good ideas reach the people and territories where they can make a difference," concluded the counselor.
