Unemployment registers the biggest drop since the start of the pandemic, with 2,503 fewer unemployed on the island

It was reduced by 13% compared to the previous month, although there are still about 5,500 more unemployed than before the start of the health crisis

Unemployment registered the largest drop since the beginning of the pandemic last July. Lanzarote closed the month with 2,503 fewer unemployed than in June, which represents a decrease of 13%.

However, there are still about 5,500 more unemployed than before the start of the health crisis. In total, July closed with 16,779 unemployed on the island, compared to the 11,207 in February 2020.

Since then, the figure continued to skyrocket until it reached its peak last April, with 19,903 people unemployed. In May and June the decreases were only 2 and 1% respectively, but last month the greatest improvement was recorded.

Compared to July 2020, the decrease has been 1.8%, since then there were 17,081 unemployed.

By sectors, the service sector is still the most affected, with 6,631 workers unemployed. It is followed by hospitality, with 4,751, and commerce, with 2,685.

Regarding the gender of job seekers in Lanzarote, 9,286 are women and 7,493 are men.
