The UK Government updated its travel recommendations for Spain this Tuesday to remove the Canary Islands from the list of destinations not recommended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The British Foreign Office has stated in a brief note that it "advises against all but essential travel to Spain", which "includes the Balearic Islands but excludes the Canary Islands, by virtue of the current evolution of risks from Covid-19".

UK authorities have also included in their latest update the end of border controls in Portugal, lifted last weekend.

The UK has accumulated more than 4.4 million cases of coronavirus and on Wednesday the Ministry of Health reported 1,649 more positives. At least 127,000 people have died in British territory from Covid-19.
