UGT, as the union that holds the representation of the Adislan works council, has urged the Department of Social Welfare of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to resolve the situation of the workers of this association "for non-payment of the last month's payroll."

According to the union, given the situation that has been generated by the non-payment of wages, a meeting was held last Monday, May 10, with the Minister of Welfare, Isabel Martín, in which the Adislan Works Council urged that a solution be found. For her part, "the Minister of Social Welfare limited herself to responding that they were awaiting a legal report to release the payments, and that she would take it to the Governing Council for approval," something that is not shared by the Works Council since "the Minister was already aware of this situation, when this problem could have been solved a long time ago."

For UGT, "it is incomprehensible that in the current situation that is going through this health crisis and when the services provided by the workers of Adislan are most needed, no public money is received, by the Cabildo, for the management of public places of accommodation and day centers that it manages and are assigned by the Cabildo within the framework of the Dependency Law."

"The Minister hides behind the fact that the contractual relationship between the Cabildo and Adislan is irregular, but in the meantime, the service has been provided for years without a solution being sought to this situation, in this regard it should be remembered that at the end of May 2020, the Cabildo of Lanzarote agreed to review the services in the area of social care that had been provided irregularly," they add from the trade union organization.

"Attention to dependent people will be compromised"

Likewise, the Works Council warns that "attention to dependent people will be compromised." In addition, together with this public complaint, another action or mobilization is not ruled out "if they do not seek an immediate solution."

On the other hand, the "great work" done by Adislan is recognized, although it is pointed out that "the results and this great work falls on its workers." It is also recalled that "this is not the first time that these delays in the payment of wages have occurred."

"The Adislan staff is tired of this situation, they have not received the payroll for the month of April, there are workers who have difficulties to join the workplace, they no longer have money to put gasoline in their vehicle. The paradox is that the workers themselves will soon be in a situation of social emergency. Social Emergency for which, according to the Works Council, the Cabildo will be responsible, as are the public places," he concludes.
