The Turkish flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) has announced its intention to launch a process of purchasing a minority stake in the Spanish airline Air Europa, according to Turkish media this Friday.

The Balearic airline offers four weekly flights between Lanzarote and Madrid and another three between Lanzarote and Bilbao.

With this binding offer, the Turkish company aims to achieve rapid growth in the Latin American market, create new sources of income and increase regional operational diversity, reports HavaHaber, a media specializing in the aviation market, this Friday.

In fact, THY, in which the Turkish State has a majority shareholding, has already informed its plan to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), an electronic business notification system operated by the Istanbul Stock Exchange and the CBM, the securities market regulator.

In a statement last night to that system, THY pointed out that its feasibility studies have shown that, within the growth strategy until 2033, the combination of its global network of air connections with Air Europa's strong presence in Spain and Latin America, in the passenger and cargo segments, "can contribute to achieving rapid and large-scale growth" in this region of the world.
