The Ministry of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands has just closed the call for the zero quota 2025 with an increase in the number of granted applications of 36%. Thus, a total of 3,620 Canary Islands self-employed workers (285 in Lanzarote) who started their activity in 2024 have benefited from this aid for a total value of 3.2 million euros, 32% more than in 2024
The "zero quota" for self-employed in the Canary Islands is an aid or subsidy from the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands intended to compensate or fully subsidize the Social Security contributions paid by self-employed workers.
The most novel aspect of this call is the notable improvement in the quality of the applications, which doubled compared to the first call: 44.24% of the applications have been paid without the need for correction thanks to the joint work of the General Directorate of Self-Employed Workers and the Chambers of Commerce to facilitate procedures.
The Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Industry, Trade and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, highlighted that the results of this call demonstrate "the need for this aid for those self-employed who start their activity, which also serves as motivation for new entrepreneurs, as demonstrated by the fact that month after month the number of self-employed workers in the islands grows".For this reason, he explained that the Government will continue to support the self-employed not only with a new reissue of this call this year 2026 but with other measures included in the Autonomous Support Plan such as the Concilia Program, which facilitates the work-life balance of the self-employed worker and whose call will be released shortly
It is followed by +Uno52, which subsidizes the self-employed person for the hiring of the first employee aged 52 or over. For those self-employed individuals who request a loan, they will also be subsidized up to two points of interest and the social security contribution will be reduced for those who are on leave due to Temporary Incapacity
The Vice President of the Government pointed out that "other measures will follow these. The economy of the Archipelago pivots on small businesses and the self-employed, and it is they, the employers, who generate jobs and create economic activity".
The initial amount of this call amounted to 2.5 million euros, but in October 2025 the credit was increased by 800,000 euros due to the increase in applications and with the aim of responding to all files, thus reaching a total budget of 3.3 million.
In total, 5,915 applications have been submitted, 86.36% only on the island of Tenerife. Of these, 3,620 files have been resolved, 1,843 in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and 1,777 in Las Palmas. By island, 1,229 have been granted in Gran Canaria; 263 in Fuerteventura; 285 in Lanzarote; 1,556 in Tenerife; 34 in El Hierro; 216 in La Palma; and 37 in La Gomera
