The USO union has announced that the Irish airline Ryanair has confirmed its intention to carry out a total of 432 layoffs by closing its bases in Girona and the Canary Islands, of which 58 will be carried out in Lanzarote.

USO points out that this Tuesday began the collective employment regulation procedure initiated by Ryanair, Crewlink and Workforce, with three meetings held in Madrid. According to the union, the Irish airline intends to dismiss 432 workers in Spain, of which 220 correspond to crew members hired directly by Ryanair, 85 crew members hired by Workforce, and 22 crew members linked to Crewlink. In total, 327 cabin crew and 105 Ryanair pilots.

By bases, in Ryanair's initial approach, Tenerife and Girona will be the most affected according to USO, with 100 layoffs in each of them, followed by Las Palmas, with 69 layoffs and Lanzarote, with 58.

"Everything seems to indicate that the causes of the ERE are not justified"

The union points out that Ryanair has provided the documentary evidence of this ERE "not being able to be analyzed in depth." "What we can see, unfortunately, is the definitive inclusion of the Girona base within the affected bases. Therefore, we confirm that the ERE affects Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, Lanzarote and Girona," explains Gustavo Silva, general secretary of USO-Ryanair.

In the absence of carefully analyzing the justification file of the collective employment regulation procedure proposed for the affected bases, they state that "everything seems to indicate that the causes of the ERE are not justified." "Two new dates have been set to begin negotiations, the next 25th and 30th of October, in which after analyzing the documentation provided, we will do everything possible to stop this process or minimize job losses as much as possible," said Helena Serrano, from the Sitcpla cabin crew union.
