The tourist recovery has returned the usual tone to the data of the issuing countries, and in September the United Kingdom once again represented almost half of the foreign tourists arriving in Lanzarote. In that month there were 48,206 Britons who came to the island, which represents 46.16% of the total, which amounted to 104,440.

Before the pandemic, British tourism hovered around and even exceeded 50% of the foreign tourism that Lanzarote receives, but that changed radically as a result of the health crisis, becoming the most affected. At the beginning of this summer it began to recover, after the restrictions on travel to Spain were lifted in that country, but it was in September when the highest figure to date was reached.

However, the figures for the United Kingdom are still very far from those before the pandemic. In the month of September two years ago, Lanzarote received a total of 118,432 Britons, that is, 70,226 more than last September. What is reflected is a great improvement compared to 2020, when only 6,696 British tourists arrived on the island, so in 2021 there have been 620% more than last year.

Ireland has been the second country in the ranking of tourist emitters to Lanzarote, since in the month of September a total of 13,257 Irish people landed at the César Manrique - Lanzarote airport. This is 830% more than in 2020, when only 1,426 arrived, although it is still far from the data prior to the pandemic. In the same month of 2019, a total of 29,246 tourists arrived from Ireland, also being the second issuing country, after the United Kingdom.

As for Germany, it was in third place, with a total of 13,165 tourists, although the data is still far from that of 2019, since in September of that year 20,638 tourists arrived in Lanzarote from Germany.

National, Italian and French tourism, with better data than before the pandemic

Meanwhile, France and Italy have had data that even exceeds that of 2019. The French country generated a total of 8,631 tourists in September, compared to 8,563 in the same month of the year before the pandemic. Italy, for its part, also has higher records than in 2019, since in September of this year 5,100 Italian tourists arrived in Lanzarote, compared to 4,525 in the same month in 2019.

In addition, the largest growth has been registered by national tourism, which since this summer has already exceeded the data prior to the health crisis. In total, last September 47,544 national tourists arrived on the island, compared to 31,247 in September 2019. In 2020, the figure had been 19,182.

According to figures collected by the Cabildo Data Center, in September a total of 4,839 Dutch tourists also arrived in Lanzarote, in addition to 2,660 Belgians, 2,029 from the Nordic countries and 6,553 from other countries.
