The transport of goods and passengers in the Canary Islands does not rule out stopping its activity if the regional government does not design an economic contingency plan for the sector in the face of the fuel crisis that endangers the viability of many companies, according to the employers' association Federación de Empresarios de Transportes (FET).
The Federation of Transport Businessmen has reported that companies in the freight and passenger transport sector, including SMEs, large companies, cooperatives, self-employed workers and various associations, have agreed to call an upcoming motorized demonstration as the first measure of protest against the, in their opinion, insufficient response from the Ministry, which offers "a one-time payment of 1,000 euros per vehicle".
So far, the Government of the Canary Islands has announced a retroactive subsidy for the transport sector with funds from the fuel tax that will be applied according to price increases, to reduce the impact of inflation.
For its part, the FET will soon provide more information on the date and route of the demonstration that will be called at the regional level.
