"The lack of vehicles that work this summer in the taxi service in Lanzarote is being remarkable, so much so that the situation has generated an increase in the complaints of tourists who spend the summer on the island who are forced to endure waiting queues until they are attended." This was denounced by the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL), which has demanded the activation of the full taxi service, in order to reduce waiting times, especially at stops in tourist areas such as Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca or at the Airport.
“If the previous concern was the lack of tourists, now it is the lack of taxis that can meet the current demand since the existing fleet does not work one hundred percent in some areas. It is necessary to launch a coordination plan between the public transport sector and the administrations that provides a definitive solution,” lament from the employers.
For the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, better coordination is required and they urge a solution as simple as anticipating the reinforcement of vehicles on key days and hours for the disembarkation or landing of travelers at the airport, but also reinforcement in the tourist areas that are left without taxi service at different times of the day.
According to the complaints received, travelers, whether tourists or residents, are forced to remain waiting for a long time due to the absence of this transport, offering a very bad image of the services provided.
“Tourism is an essential sector for our economy, so it is essential to take care of public services that are also part of the service to tourists, and affect the projection of our image, especially when the situation is not unknown in Lanzarote, where similar episodes have already been recorded in the middle of the summer season,” he stressed.
"Lack of hammocks"
Another complaint raised by the employers is the lack of hammocks on the beaches of Puerto del Carmen since they still do not have the hammock and umbrella service since it was withdrawn at the beginning of the pandemic, more than a year ago. In this sense, the hoteliers in the area have expressed their criticism of the lack of equipment on the beaches precisely “when the businessmen and women of the sector are making a great effort to open the hotels and/or start their establishments despite coming from such a bad year.”
