The Fishing Pier of the Port of Arrecife, in Lanzarote, now has a new fence. The Port Authority of Las Palmas has completed the installation of this new infrastructure, located along the Bay of Naos, thus fulfilling the commitment made to the citizens to improve the visual impact of the promenade that extends along the bay.

It is a fence made of an electrowelded mesh composed of a series of elements specially designed to withstand the adverse conditions of the maritime climate.

Said fence is placed on a reinforced concrete base 70 centimeters high, of which only 40 centimeters are visible, the rest remains below ground level.

The new construction element replaces the previous fence, made with concrete pieces that generated a visual impact by eliminating the view of the sea from the promenade.

“Every port area must be delimited with a fence that differentiates the port area from the city. With the action we have just carried out, we are responding to a demand that the citizens of Arrecife had conveyed to us, and when it is possible to improve the relationship between the port and the citizens without compromising safety or operability, we believe that we must do so," pointed out the president of the Port Authority, Beatriz Calzada.

She also stressed: “From the Port Authority, we believe that listening to people and attending to their proposals is part of our way of managing ports. This new fence maintains all the safety guarantees required by port operations, but at the same time allows us to recover the visual connection with the sea and make the port a more integrated space with the city, generating a more pleasant promenade for the citizens.”

The works, which began last March, have a budget of 206,441 euros and an execution period of seven months. All the fencing is currently in place. In the coming weeks, the access gate to the pier will be manufactured and installed.
