The Puertos de Las Palmas Awards will recognize the work of Aitor Galán posthumously

The 2025 edition, which will be held for the first time in Lanzarote on November 27, includes the San Ginés Fishermen's Guild among its awardees

The Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation will present its Puertos de Las Palmas Awards 2025 for the first time in Lanzarote, specifically the ceremony will be held on November 27 at Plaza de las Cruces, Marina Lanzarote (Arrecife), and will bring together representatives from the maritime-port, business, and institutional sectors.

The awards ceremony, which will be attended by the president of the Puertos de Las Palmas Foundation, Beatriz Calzada, and the manager, Betsabé Morales, along with prominent figures from the port, business, and institutional sectors, has recognized for 29 years the trajectory, contribution, and effort of individuals, companies, and institutions that drive the development of the maritime-port sector in the province of Las Palmas.

The Recognition in memoriam award will be given to Aitor Galán Robles, delegate of the Port Authority in Lanzarote who passed away last January, in gratitude for his dedication and commitment to the Canary Islands ports.

The Entrepreneurial Initiative award will be presented to Varadero Marina Lanzarote, "for consolidating itself as a reference technical center in the Canary Islands for the maintenance and repair of recreational, fishing, commercial, and superyacht vessels".

The **Professional Life in the Port Environment** award will go to three people: José Torres Hernández (Torremor e Hijos S.L.), for his contribution to the mooring sector and port security in Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario;
Nicolás Lorenzo Ferrera (Port Employment Center), for his effective management in stevedoring and his commitment to job stability; and Cecilio Hernández Castellano (Port Police), for more than two decades dedicated to security and for his outreach work bringing the port closer to citizens.

The Distinguished Client award will be presented to Spliethoff, "for its outstanding multipurpose shipping career and its key role in positioning the Port of Las Palmas as a logistics platform in the Atlantic".

The special institutional award will be ex aequo for the Chambers of Commerce of the Province of Las Palmas (Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura), for their "impetus to economic development and business competitiveness".

In addition, the Special Sociocultural Award will be presented to the Fishermen's Guild of San Ginés (Arrecife), "for its historical contribution to the island's economy and its defense of the sustainable use of marine resources".

 

The Centennial Recognition award will also be presented to ASOCELPA, "for its 100 years of trajectory as a benchmark for the Port of La Luz and Las Palmas".

This year, the Foundation will present an award designed in the Canary Islands and made from recycled plastic and reclaimed wood, to showcase the "environmental commitment of the port sector".
