The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle, is attending these days the meeting organized by the World Economic Forum in Washington D.C., representing the Canary Islands Sustainability and Zero Emissions Cluster (Canary Islands Net Zero) and as one of the thirteen members of the Global Transition to Industrial Decarbonization Network, promoted and led by the aforementioned World Economic Forum.

At the meeting, progress was presented on the different decarbonization strategies that each member of the Network is developing in their corresponding regions. For his part, José Valle, together with Marcos Cohen, who leads the project on behalf of PwC in the Canary Islands, had the opportunity to present the progress of the strategy that is being led from Lanzarote for the Canary Islands as a member of the Network. It should be remembered that the Canary Islands Sustainability and Zero Emissions Cluster is the only one of the members that make up the World Economic Forum's decarbonization network that is specialized in the tourism sector.

In addition to the international members of the Network, representatives of the Department of Energy of the Government of the United States, as well as representatives of the main industrial groups of that country, attended the event.

José Valle highlighted that "it is a pride that Lanzarote and the Canary Islands are taken into account in this series of events and that they place our islands at the center of the main conversations on decarbonization that are taking place worldwide, since the island is one of the main tourist destinations worldwide and one of the pioneers in talking about sustainable destinations with one of its main ambassadors, such as César Manrique." He also highlighted the importance of belonging "to this exclusive Network where the exchange of knowledge between the different members is very important, the knowledge that the main companies in the world in terms of sustainability are sharing with each member and the ability to attract projects and investments to the Canary Islands of the highest world level."

It should be remembered that this initiative, promoted by the World Economic Forum, is being led in the Canary Islands by the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, following the accession agreement signed at the headquarters of the prestigious international institution in New York last November.

This initiative allows Lanzarote to be placed at the epicenter of innovation in decarbonization and tourism sustainability, providing an opportunity for all Canarian companies and public institutions to turn Lanzarote into a laboratory in terms of decarbonization of tourist destinations.
