The president of the Las Palmas Port Authority, Beatriz Calzada, reported at the last meeting of the Board of Directors, held in Arrecife, on the preparation of the Strategic Noise Map (SNM), which identifies the main acoustic sources of noise emission in the ports of the Port Authority, as well as the Noise Action Plan (NAP), which calculates the true influence of port noise.

According to the study carried out, the noise levels at the Port of Arrecife do not affect the population, while in the Port of Las Palmas they affect 18 homes in the surrounding area. In Puerto del Rosario there is one affected home.

In addition, the study reveals that, in the case of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the noise generated by the GC-1 highway drowns out those emitted by the port itself, that is, practically all the noise generated by the Port of Las Palmas is barely perceptible due to the noise generated by other acoustic elements, such as the GC-1 highway. In addition, President Beatriz Calzada has indicated that different actions have already been launched to minimize the acoustic impact on the population.

Likewise, in its commitment to decarbonization, the directors have been informed of the Port Authority's planning in terms of OPS. In the Port of Las Palmas, the Fishing Dock and the Main Dock have already been electrified, with an investment of 1.8 million euros. In addition, the Port Authority contemplates 11 million euros included in the Investment Plan destined to the implementation of the OPS system in inter-island ro-pax traffic, that is, for both passengers and vehicles.

Anti-pollution barrier in Las Palmas

The Port of Las Palmas is shielded against marine pollution and "seals" its docks with the purchase of a new anti-pollution barrier, which will prevent and fight against the possibility of an oil spill incident at sea.

This is the last barrier that the Port Authority had pending to acquire to completely close all the docks, thus preventing any spill that occurs in inland waters from spreading to the open sea.

This barrier, 300 meters long, has automatic inflation and filling, which provides a shorter laying time, helping to control possible spills within the port. It will be placed in the Dársena de África, complementing the existing one in the Nelson Mandela Dock, owned by the company ORYX, and assigned to the service of the Port Authority of Las Palmas under its agreement of good environmental practices.

In another order of things, the Port of Las Palmas will have its own Maritime Traffic Control Center. The Board of Directors has approved the opening of the procedure for the supply, installation and maintenance of electronic equipment for this Control Center, which has a base budget of 1.6 million euros and must be operational within 6 months.

The file for the contracting of services for the updating, development and implementation of new functionalities and maintenance of the economic-financial management system has also been approved, for an amount of 799,522 euros. In this way, the Port Authority intends to achieve the objective of improving and optimizing the current control processes without losing any of its functionalities and increasing efficiency in all of them, both in ease of use and in interrelation with the rest of the corporate systems and applications.
