The Association of Farmers of Montaña de Los Valles de Lanzarote has been awarded the Sustainable Project Award at the recent "National Potato Awards" for its work in the protection and promotion of the potato from Los Valles.

In an environment of unique microclimates and limited water resources, the competition has recognized the association's work to "maintain productive and environmentally friendly agriculture, preserving traditional techniques that are part of Lanzarote's cultural heritage".

The jury has particularly valued the creation of quality seals that guarantee the origin and excellence of the product. "By bringing together small producers, the association has managed to strengthen the position of local potatoes in the market, ensuring the profitability of family farms and generational succession in the area. Their model is an example of how sector unity can protect biodiversity and guarantee the survival of emblematic crops in the face of global market challenges."

About the National Potato Awards

This benchmark event for the national potato sector, organized by Revista Campo, recognizes "people, initiatives, and projects that are transforming the potato value chain through innovation, sustainability, and social commitment".

Following the success of its first two editions, the National Potato Awards have established themselves as a platform to highlight the relevance of this crop, essential in Spanish agriculture and gastronomy. The awards recognize excellence in a variety of fields, from production to technological innovation and sustainability.

These awards are backed by a professional jury, which in this edition has been composed of 29 members from 8 autonomous communities. The jury has proposed and evaluated around 100 candidates for the 8 award categories.

The awards ceremony will be held on January 22 at the Emiliano Allende Auditorium in Medina del Campo (Valladolid).
