The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) of December 30, 2005, published the Order by which aid is called to alleviate the damages that have been registered in agricultural productions and infrastructures, due to the effects of the tropical storm 'Delta', which affected the Archipelago during the 28th and 29th of November last.
The aid, subsidies and measures of an exceptional nature that have been agreed to repair the damages caused by the passage of 'Delta' have a budgetary allocation of 3,008,822.05 euros, a budgetary item with which it is intended to complement the compensation of agricultural insurance and thereby alleviate the effects that have been registered both in production and in infrastructure. The funds may be increased later depending on the requests submitted.
Farmers and ranchers affected by the storm may apply for aid, processing the application before January 30 of this year, which must be submitted to the dependencies of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food of the Government of the Canary Islands, in the Agricultural Extension Agencies or in any of the dependencies or forms provided for in the administrative procedures of the Autonomous Community.
Farmers and ranchers affected may apply for aid, who, despite having a policy in force covered by the Combined Agricultural Insurance Plan for the year 2005, register losses that are not covered in said plan, as well as those who, despite not having initiated the contracting of insurance on that date, did have said contracting in previous campaigns. Farmers and ranchers who have suffered losses in productions not included in the Annual Combined Insurance Plan may also apply.
The General Directorate of Agrarian Structures will issue and modify the resolutions that give rise to the files presented and will make its opinion public before March 13. It is also established that aid in the area of infrastructure will be paid in installments: 50 percent of its amount at the time of its concession and the remaining 50 percent after justification of the repair of the damage, without in any case exceeding December 31, 2006.
