Lanzarote has already started this year's harvest, with a forecast of collecting about one and a half million kilos of grapes. The amount is half of what was collected last year, although the Regulatory Council recalls that the wineries still maintain a significant stock from last season, due to the confinement marked by the Covid-19 crisis. "It is expected to be released in the coming months," they point out.

In addition, the Council highlights that "despite the adverse circumstances, thanks to the early ripening and the lack of diseases on the part of the vines, the fruit will be of great quality" in this new campaign.

The first winery to start the harvest this year was Puro Rofe, which started last Tuesday. It was followed by Bodega El Grifo, on Wednesday, Finca Fajardo, on Thursday, and Vega de Yuco, on Friday.

The varieties that have begun to be harvested have been Malvasía Volcánica and Listán Blanco. These will be followed by Listán Negra, and will end with the later grapes, Moscatel de Alejandría and Diego.

The Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin Vinos de Lanzarote wanted to "value the commendable work of winegrowers and winemakers in this very peculiar year".
