The Government will approve specific measures next Tuesday to limit the impact of the increase in diesel prices on fishermen's operating costs, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas.

The Minister of Agriculture has announced, in a press conference, that the set of measures to be approved by the Council of Ministers to alleviate the economic consequences of the war in Ukraine will include this "specific" action for fishermen and also a special mention to accelerate the payment of aid with funds from the European Union (EU).

Planas met this Wednesday with the heads of the shipowners' association (Cepesca), the National Federation of Fishermen's Guilds (FNCP) and the aquaculture employers' association Apromar to study solutions to the rise in fuel prices, after three days of fleet moorings in a large part of Spanish ports.

In the Canary Islands and in particular in Lanzarote, the sector had already warned of the critical situation it is going through, since the rise in the price of fuel made it unsustainable to go fishing.
